Hardwood Floor Refinishing and Installation: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will it take to sand and refinish my floor?

A: A typical sand and refinish job will take between 3-4 days, depending on whether the floor is finished naturally, or a stain is applied, respectively. If you opt to go with just a screen and coat, it will only take one day. An additional day of drying is always needed before replacing furniture.

Q: How long will it take to install my new floor?
A: Installation times can very greatly depending on total square footage, type of flooring, and layout of the room(s), and other factors. An accurate time estimate can be given once I have visited your location.

Q: What about the dust?
A: Dust is a natural part of installing and sanding hardwood floors. The idea is to make sure that you, the customer, never see it or breathe it, and that the job is as flawless as possible. I take many steps to prevent any dust from escaping into the home, and I am meticulous about keeping my job site clean. We clean up dust, not only when we are done, but also throughout the process.

Q: Will your company move our furniture? Where will it go?
A: Bryant’s Floors is a professional floor service, but we are not professional movers. I recommend using professionals who have pads, dollies, hand trucks, etc. I can provide moving services at an additional fee, but I prefer that all small items, toys, trash, electronics, and valuables be removed from the work area prior to our arrival.

Usually, your furniture can be stored in a spare bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, or basement. If the project requires removing furniture from the home, I recommend using a professional moving company that can provide mobile storage units (pods).

Q: Will your company provide me with a free estimate?
A: Absolutely. I would love to come to your home or property and take measurements, discuss your options, and provide you with a detailed proposal, all at no charge to you!

Q: Is your company fully licensed and insured?
A: Bryant’s Floors is is a licensed contractor with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (#93209). Please feel free to check my company’s standing. Bryant’s Floors has a general liability policy with Frederick Mutual Insurance for $2,000,000.

Q: Will your company provide us with samples of flooring and color choices?
A: Bryant’s Floors is an independent company, which allows me to provide you with any kind of wood, from any manufacturer. I will work with you to find the floor that you will love. For installations, I will provide you with samples of wood that I feel will match what you are looking for. For sanding and refinishing, I will apply several colors to the floor and allow you to decide which one looks the best.
